User retention

User retention measures the share of users who keep coming back to your product over time — day over day or week over week. It’s a usage metric (are people returning to your product?), not a revenue metric. Add the User Retention widget from the Audience & Revenue category on the Dashboard.

Retention is a cohort curve: a starting cohort of users, then the share of that cohort still active on each following day or week. A curve that decays fast and then flattens shows your long-term retention floor. Scope it to a segment to compare groups.

Weak early retention (a steep first-period drop) usually traces to onboarding or first-conversation quality. Cross-check with User sentiment and Conversation metrics to see whether negative or unresolved first sessions line up with the drop-off.

  • Active users: the audience retention is measured against.
  • Segments: compare retention across groups.
